      CIRCUIT RIDER'S WIFE...THE MUSICAL
Doris Dennison Burns, Playwright ... Jim W. Burns, Lyricist/Composer

Ready for a musical theatre experience of great fun, belly laughter, heart-catching music and stimulating reflective dialogue?

In this music story set in the Great Smoky Mountains, you will declare you have met these timeless folks before.
The story is surprisingly contemporary, as the folks of the Redwine Circuit show the conflicting sides of man's nature, often with humorous consequences.  Suitable for ages 5 to 105.

"Guarantee you’ve got a pinch of this mountain spirit in you,
if no more than two generations ago…

           * Wonderful musical score and the characters are entertaining and compelling.
           * A story as endearing as any your grandmother ever shared while sitting
on the front porch for a summer’s evening!
           * A family show that I’d recommend to anyone who grew up South of the
              Mason–Dixon line."

Susan Ridley, Dalton Little Theatre Board of Directors

Picture
A MUSICAL THEATRE WORK
19 scenes and 19 songs...
14 original songs plus a 19th Century mountain song; “Singing School” FASOLA sacred harp music; and country toe-tapping music.

Mary Eden, a city girl from the “prayer-cloth-knitting” Edens, falls in love and marries William Thompson, a "hell-fire-and-brimstone-preaching country Methodist circuit-riding preacher. It may not have been a marriage made in heaven, but it creates real earthly encounters with true-to-life characters who reveal the hardships, struggles and unexpected joys of living in a conservative mountain community.

I have had the joy of seeing "The Cotton Patch Gospels" off Broadway in New York as well as "Smoke On the Mountain" by the Cumberland Playhouse, both wonderful productions. I would rate "The Circuit Rider's Wife" as equally enjoyable and inspiring play. The original score by Jim Burn's is brilliant.  I give "Circuit Rider's Wife" two thumbs up, don't miss it.”                                                 J. Russell Taylor, Methodist Minister, SC
